Oxygenation and Ventilation EMT
Our Summer EMT class of 2021, had a question when discussing oxygenation and ventilation. We applied a little research by setting up an experiment to answer two questions. Does holding your breath change your pulse ox reading and does hyperventilating change your pulse ox reading. We worked as a team to answer this question. We then pulled in an ALS piece of equipment, electronic waveform capnography, and demonstrated how ventilation could be measured. The class did have a question at the end of the day. If EMTs are now able to acquire 12 lead ECGs and transmit them to the hospital, why couldn't EMTs utilize electronic waveform capnography? Have a thought on this? Leave it in the comments!

GREAT GREAT DEMONSTRATION!!!!! Nail polish can throw the pulse oximeter's readings off, but the newer models will adapt well, to most colors. That's better than the older more archaic oximeters such as maybe a Nonin, or an Ohmeda Biox oximeter.
Always make it easy on yourself and just estimate even numbers.

I found that if it has been pulled from the microwave and until it has cooled, it can be placed on an individual's skin. Make sure it isn't too hot.
How long does this skin last, if refrigerated between uses? I need to build simulators for canine cephalic venipuncture, and equine jugular venipuncture, but I need them to last a while! Thanks.

The ETT is placed the typical average depth for male and female. Confirm placement and adjust as needed.

its gelatin, in summer it melts unless you freeze it, so no use the day after
